Introduction to my blog

Introduction to my AS blog

My name is Chelsea Shand and I am studying media studies at A-level. I have been set a task to create my own school magazine. I will be uploading posts to my blog frequently to keep up to date with all my work so that it is produced to the best of my ability.

To produce a successful  school magazine I will have to research existing school magazines and there conventions such as the type of mastheads, sell lines and photos so i know how to present mine to relate to my target audience. However, I think finding a school magazine will be difficult because they have such a niche audience.

I will be publishing posts on the following subjects so I can cover all the important factors of creating a professional magazine, such as:

- existing media
- Target audience
- questionnaire and results
- Themes
- Colours

These posts will be important for making my magazine so I will have to go into dept with commenting on why I should use them and how I am going to corporate them into my school magazine.

Exsiting media

To be able to create my own school magazine I needed to research existing school magazines to understand what common convection's I will need to follow to create a successful school magazine. I annotated two different magazines to find this out.
This school magazine follows many of the common conventions such as the masthead and the sell lines. On the other hand there is no anchoring text to the main image for us as the audience to understand the image.

I looked at another magazine called FFH and annotated that one too to see if there was any difference between different school magazines.

This school magazine also follows many of the common conventions but similarly to the magazine 'College' it does not show an anchoring text to the main image. This magazine also has a contents summary on the front page which is not a common convention. The contents is traditionally inside of the magazine but unusually it has a small preview on the front cover.

I will also need to take into consideration whether the school is a grammar school or a comprehensive school. The difference in schools would make a huge different to the image of the magazine and the target audience. For example, the target audience for a grammar schools magazine is parents who are in a higher social class to the target audience for a comprehensive school which is parents in a lower social class. To relate to my target audience, i will need to use specific langauge and images.
